My name is Michael Orlando and I'm a professional screenwriter and filmmaker from Vancouver, Canada.
In December of 2018 I was accepted into the Netflix-sponsored Pacific Screenwriting Program’s inaugural Scripted Series Lab, which you can read about here. During my time in the program, I helped develop an original series under ‘Cardinal’ showrunner Sarah Dodd, which included writing a script for the show.
Over the past year I've written and created an original one-hour drama named "Pipe Bomb", which was recently featured by The Black List, made the finals of the Oaxaca FilmFest screenwriting competition, placed as a semi-finalist in both the 2017 ScreenCraft Pilot Launch TV and Shore Scripts TV Pilot competitions, and placed as a quarter-finalist in the Austin Film Festival, Sundance Episodic Story Labs, and Final Draft Big Break screenwriting competitions.
Additionally, I wrote a spec script for "The Last Man on Earth" which placed in the Top 5 at the 2017 Austin Film Festival screenwriting competition. The following year I was invited to read as an adjudicator for the Austin Film Festival’s screenwriting competition.
My debut short film "The Yoga Bridge", which I wrote, directed, and produced premiered at the 2017 Oxford Film Festival, was nominated for a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival, and won Best Script at the UWPG Film Fest. The film also screened at the Austin and North Carolina LGBTQ film festivals.
